YACHTZOO and APSA Host Event to Promote Kobe Marina Project
On the Eve before the Monaco Yacht Show, YACHTZOO and the Asia-Pacific Superyacht Association (APSA) co-hosted a private party on the terrace of the Novotel Hotel overlooking Port Hercule. Nigel Beatty, Chairman of APSA, reflected on how the party has grown “from an informal get together with 20 colleagues 14years ago to the much-anticipated party of today”. The party signifies a great way to bring members of APSA together with the international yachting sector in a meaningful and fun way.
The event highlights a new initiative aimed at positioning Japan as a prominent superyacht cruising destination. The event brought together industry leaders to present and promote the planned development of a new marina in Kobe, Japan.
The initiative, supported by both YACHTZOO and APSA, is designed to open up new opportunities for superyachts in Japanese waters. Despite its extensive coastline, world-class hospitality, and rich cultural heritage, Japan remains a relatively untapped market for international superyachts. The Kobe marina project seeks to change this by providing the necessary infrastructure and services to welcome larger vessels and their guests in comfort and security.
Guests at the reception included owners’ representatives, captains, designers, shipbuilders, and other stakeholders from across the superyacht community. The hosts outlined the strategic importance of the Kobe development: creating a gateway for cruising not only in Japan but across the broader Asia-Pacific region. With improved access, the country could establish itself as a major destination for both private cruising and charter itineraries.
The evening emphasized the long-term vision of integrating Japan into established global cruising routes. Attendees discussed the benefits such a development would bring, including economic impact for local communities, increased tourism, and an expanded range of experiences for yacht owners and guests seeking new destinations.
By hosting the event at Monaco, YACHTZOO and APSA underscored their commitment to advancing Asia’s role in the superyacht sector. The Kobe marina project represents a significant step toward diversifying cruising options worldwide, and the initiative was met with strong interest from the international yachting community.
