Feadship is widely regarded as the pinnacle of custom superyacht construction. The Dutch group brings together the shipyards Royal Van Lent in Kaag and Koninklijke De Vries in Aalsmeer with the design and engineering firm De Voogt Naval Architects. Every Feadship is a one-off: each design begins with a blank piece of paper, and no two Feadships are alike.
The Feadship heritage stretches back to 1849, when the Van Lent family began boatbuilding, but the brand itself was formally founded in 1949, when De Vries and Van Lent joined four other Dutch shipyards to market Dutch-built yachts to American clients. The name is an acronym of First Export Association of Dutch Shipbuilders, and by 1951 Feadship was presenting yachts at the New York Motor Boat Show.
Feadship has launched some of the most celebrated superyachts in history, including the 83.5-metre Savannah, the world's first hybrid motoryacht; the 101.5-metre Symphony, the first Feadship to exceed 100 metres; and the 118.8-metre Breakthrough, the world's first hydrogen fuel cell superyacht. The group has also expanded its facilities, opening a new yard in Amsterdam in 2019.
